Hook Tower + Dragon Push: The Attack That Crushed This Base (Clash of Clans)
“On this one I noticed there was a hook tower and I've been wanting to try to freeze the RC and let the hook tower pull her in. So that's exactly what I do.”

I've been eyeing this trick for a while: use the Hook Tower to yank my Royal Champion (RC) into range, lock things down with a Freeze, protect her with an early Invisibility if needed, and then send a Dragon wave from the opposite side once the key defenses are handled. In this raid, it finally came together—and the base was absolutely crushed.
Below is a play-by-play of what I was thinking, what went right, what almost went wrong, and why the Minion Prince quietly stole MVP honors.
Spotting the Hook Tower & Setting the Plan
“On this one I noticed there was a hook tower…”
That tower set the whole plan. I wanted the Hook Tower to pull the RC in, then freeze her so she could work safely while the tower did the positioning for me.
Plan in one sentence: Let the base pull my hero for me, then flip the map and crush from the far side with Dragons.
RC Drop, Freeze Timing & Early Invis Insurance
“I’ve been wanting to try to freeze the RC and let the hook tower pull her in… I used the hook tower to pull the RC in… I used the freeze… her health was pretty low already and I was starting to get nervous. So I invised a little early… just to make sure she didn't die while she was frozen.”
The RC got in deep fast—deeper than comfort. Her HP dipped quicker than I expected. Rather than risk losing her mid-freeze, I popped an early Invis to buy time. That small panic-save kept the pathing intact.
Quick Takeaways
- If you're experimenting with Hook Tower pulls, pre-hover your freeze so you’re not late.
- Watch the RC’s HP like a hawk; low HP + freeze lock = dead hero if you wait too long.
- Don’t be afraid to Invis early. Alive RC > perfectly efficient RC.
Spell Tower Mix-Up (Poison? Nope—Rage.)
“I was hoping that poison tower would wait… Oops sorry that was not a poison tower, that was a rage tower.”
Real talk: I miscalled the tower mid-attack. Thought it was Poison, turned out Rage. That matters—Poison slows your RC and melts troops; Rage boosts defenses if it fires. Either way, timing matters. Because I slowed down the sequence with Freeze + Invis, the tower didn’t punish me.
Lesson: Know your colors—but also prep for both outcomes. Freeze buys clarity.
Direction Flex: RC Path Didn’t Matter
“It didn't matter which way she went. I knew I was going to attack from the opposite direction regardless of which way she went.”
I had a mirrored plan: wherever the RC ended up clearing, I would send Dragons from the far side, using the cleared pocket as a natural funnel anchor.
This mindset reduces panic when heroes wander. As long as they remove something funnel-critical (like an Air Sweeper, which she did—huge), you can pivot.
Picking Up Key Value: Fire Spitter, Air Sweeper, CC
“Getting the fire spitter is always good value… Then she got that air sweeper and that's exactly what I needed her to get… She got stuck on the CC here so I invised those to get that other fire spitter.”
The RC chain-pulled value targets:
- Fire Spitter down: safer skies.
- Air Sweeper removed: green light for Dragons.
- CC snag & Invis assist: keep her moving, deny chip damage.
These small pickups add up to a smoother Dragon path and fewer surprises over the core.
Queen Topside Support & Cannon Problem-Solving
“I'm going to use the queen at the top side… there are a couple of cannons up there so I was going to use the Minion Prince to basically pick off those cannons… I was hoping to get both air defenses there, I only got the one. That's alright.”
The Queen was there for topside trim and (ideally) double Air Defense value. Only got one—fine. Because the Minion Prince handled the cannons I was worried about anyway.
Don’t overreact when a hero grabs only 60% of the job. If the threat is neutralized another way, keep rolling.
Funnel & Flight Path: Dragons Down the Middle
“I put a couple of dragons on the other side just to help with the funnel. And then I put all the dragons down the middle and they kind of worked their way in.”
Classic funnel discipline: one side cleared by RC work, other edge nipped by a few Dragons, main flock drives the channel. Clean path = grouped DPS = melted core.
Minion Prince = Underrated MVP
“The minion prince is actually able to freeze the town hall too… He also set off the spell tower there… those cannons would have beat her up really badly.”
The Minion Prince did everything I needed:
- Sniped the topside cannons before they chewed my Queen.
- Froze the Town Hall—huge tempo swing.
- Triggered a Spell Tower early so it didn’t juice the defenses when the Dragon pack rolled in.
If you’re not using the Minion Prince as a utility scalpel + defensive disruptor, start.
Result: Base = Crushed
“Yep, long story short this base was crushed. It was just clean up from here.”
Once the core folded, it was a sweep. Heroes survived longer than expected thanks to early spells, and the Dragon pack stayed high-health with fewer air threats in play.
