I Walked Right Into This Trap Base (And Learned the Hard Way)

Have you ever looked at a base in Clash of Clans and just felt like something was off… but attacked anyway?

Yeah. That was me.

This one looked like a win from the start. Poison towers? Usually a good sign. But this time, the layout was deceptive—and I walked straight into the trap.

The Setup Looked Easy—Too Easy

As soon as I dropped in, things started falling apart. My RC got pulled to the outside, exactly what the base was designed for. I could tell they wanted her circling the edges while all the heavy defenses sat safely in the core.

Still, I tried to push through.

The RC Went Rogue

I should’ve gone from the bottom side. That would’ve aligned better with my dragon drop and might have funneled her toward the core. But I sent her in from the top… and that was a mistake.
She found a Tesla (helpful, kinda), but my invis spell timing was totally off. She walked out of it, and I burned another spell trying to save her. From there, it was just a train wreck.

Even when she did head inside briefly, she bailed just as fast. This base layout had her number.

The Attack Falls Apart (And Comes Back?)

My last-ditch effort was to make something work with the dragons. I dropped them in from the bottom—mainly because the fire spitters and air sweeper were pointed the other way. I had to dodge as much as possible.

I spread them out, used the Minion Prince and Warden, and held onto their abilities as long as I could. I’ve been experimenting with separating the MP’s slowdown effect from the Warden’s invincibility to get the most value from both. That part worked okay.

For a moment, I thought I could save the attack. The dragons cleared out a lot, and I started to get hopeful.

Then the dragons started dropping.

The Takeaway

Despite clearing the base in the end, this attack was way messier than it needed to be. The RC didn’t go where she was supposed to, I burned spells early, and I didn’t funnel correctly. But hey, that’s how we learn.

If you're going up against bases clearly designed to bait your Royal Champion, here's the advice I wish I had followed:

  • Don’t rush the RC drop—watch the pathing carefully
  • Be smart with invis spell timing
  • Match your dragon drop to the sweepers and fire spitters
  • Keep MP and Warden abilities staggered for max value
